Hi, I am James Michael Taylor.
I am the owner and lead carpenter behind Wood Rules Custom Finish Carpentry & Trim. Clients call me Mike, and I have spent more than 20 years leading high-end residential and commercial construction before opening my own shop in Manchester, Tennessee.
That experience taught me that the details make the home. A perfectly scribed baseboard, a built-in that fits the wall like a glove, a crown detail that frames the ceiling just right - that is where the value lives. I bring superintendent-level discipline and a Six Sigma Black Belt mindset to every project, so nothing gets missed.
We build on-site, custom-fit to your exact dimensions. Whether you are a homeowner, a contractor, or a designer, I want the finished work to feel like it was always part of your home.

Most built-ins and trim packages take a few days to a few weeks, depending on size and complexity. Smaller trim jobs can often be completed in a day or two. We give you a clear timeline with your estimate.
We build everything paint-ready, and many clients prefer to have their own painter finish the color. If you need us to handle staining or a clear finish, we can discuss that during the estimate.
Absolutely. We regularly partner with contractors and designers on new builds, renovations, and spec homes. We coordinate schedules, respect job-site rules, and produce work that fits the overall vision.
